Solution: Smartrot vertical storage

Deceleste chooses Smartlog Uruguay to automate its spare parts service process.

Deceleste S.A. is the leading company in the Uruguayan motorbike and bicycle market for more than 20 years. It has a long and successful history representing, manufacturing, distributing, and supporting brands of great recognition worldwide.

It has the widest range of original spare parts in the country with a large stock of all the parts that make up each model to offer a service in less than 48 hours.

Deceleste decided to automate its distribution centre in Montevideo in order to automate its logistics processes and thus continue to offer an optimal level of service.

The challenges were:

  • Optimising space in your Distribution Centre.
  • Optimising productivity and responsiveness.
  • Rational organisation of spare parts

Smartrot vertical storage and preparation system

A detailed analysis conducted by the consultancy CLC (Marcel Barceló and Pablo Bobba) in collaboration with Smartlog Group has resulted in the incorporation of two Smartrot vertical storage modules, an order preparation table with 36 lights, and an annual preventive maintenance package for both software and hardware.

Smartrot’s flexible and modular design allows it to adapt to changing product volumes and sizes at any time.

This enables maximum utilization, compact storage, and accurate order preparation that guarantees fast and error-free delivery.

Smartlog solutions:

  • Two Smartrot vertical storage modules, to bring the product closer to the operator and allow them to take advantage of the available warehouse height.
  • An order preparation table with thirty-six guide lights for precise order picking in a grouped manner, that reduce the movements required.
  • Galys, our own warehouse management software to coordinates all the activities of the operation flow and interfaces with the customer’s ERP.
  • Annual preventive maintenance for both software and hardware.

Optimize space, maximize warehouse capacity

The first important step has been to achieve surface efficiency to store the largest possible amount of product in the smallest possible space. The two storage modules have a size of 3,875 mm, a depth of 1,671 mm, and a height of 7,760 mm, making the most of the 8-meter-high building. These modules provide a space of 40 carriers that can be divided internally, using intermediate shelves, and increasing the storage capacity to 156.65 m2 and a volume of 48.36 m3 per unit.

Smartrot is the ideal solution for high-turnover product ranges with limited storage space and responds more effectively to new requirements for reference numbers and intensive picking, following the “Good to person” philosophy.

The main features are:

  • Optimal use of the existing storage volume, occupying a very small footprint.
  • More efficient and effective order picking by completely reducing the margin of error.
  • Ergonomic picking.
  • Flexibility and modularity when configuring locations using boxes or trays of different heights or other systems that are considered.
  • Energy efficiency.

Behind the storage modules, an order preparation table with 36 lights has been arranged so that order preparation can be carried out in a set manner. The system provides precise instructions on the position and quantity of product units. The product must be picked and confirmed before it can be classified on the preparation table. This allows them to be faster and more efficient, work in better ergonomic conditions, and avoid mistakes. In addition, this solution does not require intensive training or additional staff.

Operational efficiency and productivity

Deceleste opted for an integral logistics model, implementing a customized hardware solution from Smartlog, as well as integrating processes through its own management software. Smartlog’s Galys WMS intervenes in all processes, from the organization of spare parts to the preparation and dispatch of orders, ensuring total traceability of items, a smooth and optimal flow of materials (inputs, outputs, order preparation, replenishment, relocation, and inventory), and an improvement in responsiveness to customers.

Its main function is to integrate inputs and order preparation through the connection with Deceleste’s ERP. The system knows which orders need to be prepared and based on this it issues preparation orders.

The WMS is constantly in communication with Deceleste’s main ERP or WMS, so the company can see the required data in real time. In addition, it allows queries to be made, reports to be obtained on existing data, movements, item turnover, stock and inventory data.

With this technology, Deceleste has achieved a more versatile and flexible supply chain that will scale and adapt to new business situations in the future.

With Smartrot, products move from being inefficiently stored on conventional shelves to being neatly stored in bins. Digitization, on the other hand, has made us more efficient and minimized errors. All processes are faster and simpler. Operators only have to follow Galys‘ instructions to complete any task. We have saved time in all management tasks, from receiving to shipping.

Permanent system availability

The preventive maintenance package contracted allows all processes to be controlled and repair and maintenance activities to be effectively supervised, making it possible to rectify any failures or wear and tear in time. All information can be stored, consolidated, and visualized to provide fact-based information on the status of the system and its components.
