Smartlog, close to the client

The Group strengthens its business in Latin America with several projects, at the same time as it moves into the Middle East and North Africa

Smartlog, a business group supplying innovative smart intralogistics solutions, is consolidating its business in Latin America through several projects, at the same time expanding its business in the Middle East, North Africa and Egypt in order to offer turnkey solutions focused on the whole “End to End” life cycle on a local basis. As the management of this Basque firm explains, “Smartlog was founded in 2016 with an international vocation but a local presence, as its goal is to be at the client’s side at all times”.

On the basis of this philosophy, after pursuing its strategy of internationalisation with the startup of its first subsidiary in Panama in 2016, Smartlog continues to reap the benefits, recently winning the confidence of the company Hola Moda, set up to generate franchises for H&M stores in Central America, a new contract in the country.

The project to be undertaken is based on implementing the first Smartlog AutoStore smart robot system to prepare orders in the country. Specifically, the system will be equipped with 8,000 containers and 13 robots. Also, in order to maximise AutoStore’s real capacity, two picking stations and an order preparation table were set up, together with an error detection and validation system in picking and a “Put to Wall” system to guide the people at the stations in sorting material. Highlights among the many benefits this will bring the client include a space saving of up to 75% and efficiency in operations.

This contract is joined by other recent important projects, one in Costa Rica with the client IMCA, another for a big company in the Dominican Republic and work in Jamaica for world-leading brands Cat®, Mobil™, Metso:Outotec, Kalmar and Interagrovial, the sole authorised representative for the John Deere brand in Uruguay and Argentina.

With a view to the next two years, the group’s road map plans to consolidate its position in the countries where it works and expand to worthwhile new markets. In this respect, this year the company is to incorporate a manufacturer of warehouse managements systems, a digitalisation company and a firm specialising in logistics for healthcare centres and hospitals. These additions will strengthen the group’s technological positioning and enable it to roll out its strategy for the future, focused on mobile robotics and servitisation.

An international vocation

2016 Smartlog Panama: this was the first subsidiary, to give the necessary support to the northern LATAM, Central American and Caribbean regions.

2017 Smartlog Uruguay: this was set up to serve southern LATAM.

2020 Smartlog Peru: the third subsidiary in Latin America.

2021 Smartlog MENA: this covers the Middle East, North Africa and Egypt, to offer turnkey solutions locally.

2022 Sinpel, Dinaiz and Lositek: all three concerns join the group this year.
