Smartlog’s Logistics Automation to Improve Conway’s Operational Efficiency

Conway The Convenience Company, one of the leading logistics operators in Spain’s convenience and foodservice sector, has implemented a comprehensive intralogistics solution at its distribution center. The project includes the installation of a high-density AutoStore system, integrated with Conway’s Flow Rack and existing conveyor system.

The installed AutoStore system features a grid capable of holding 27,100 bins, each 330 mm high, and 56 robots. This high-density robotic storage system maximizes the use of available vertical space and shifts the operational paradigm toward the product-to-person model.

For high-turnover items managed directly by Conway, a 128-channel Flow Rack has been installed in the static inventory area. The conveyor system, spanning approximately 64 linear meters, connects the automatic case former to the picking stations and the static inventory area, ensuring a continuous flow of materials.

The Galys  software, developed by Smartlog, centralizes inventory management and order planning, providing real-time information that facilitates operational and strategic decision-making. Galys acts as the central warehouse control system, integrating technologies such as AutoStore, the conveyor systems, the picking stations, and guided picking tools. Thanks to this platform, the operator has complete visibility into inventory and the status of each logistics process. 

The implementation of the system has led to a substantial improvement in key operational metrics:

  • 40% reduction in order processing time
  • 60% increase in operational efficiency
  • Space optimization: from 2,000 m² to 700 m²
  • Up to 17,000 order lines and 1,700 orders processed per day

The system’s launch has allowed us to stabilize our processes and improve order fulfillment speed. The system’s accuracy and the constant availability of product references give us great peace of mind in our daily work and help us maintain the level of service our customers require.
