How AutoStore robots work

AutoStore™ robots perform their functions constantly to carry, find, collect and deliver containers to work stations. Whether working in large teams or smaller ones, each robot operates independently, ensuring that there is no single failure point.

AutoStore robots anticipate the next wave of orders, ensuring they are available to staff.

Anticipation and time saving

AutoStore robots are not only able to anticipate a wave of orders, but they place products strategically in what is known as the “ABC” system. This means that the bins requested less frequently go down to the lower storage levels (Zone C), while items with a high turnover stay on the higher levels (Zone A) for faster access to them.

This feature is dynamic, and changes according to the situation, time of year or demand for items. Like this the bins with the highest turnover can always be accessed the fastest.

How the AutoStore system works

The full inventory is stored in plastic bins, which are stacked in a compact system of grilles, with no space or metal bar between them.

The robots retrieve bins from the lower levels using lifting hooks, and bins returning from the dispatch points are strategically placed at the highest level. If one of the robots stops working, the system can carry on at full performance and access all merchandise.
